Former footballer Lutfor Rahman dies at the age of 69

Swadhin Bangla Football team's footballer Lutfor Rahman breathed his last at the age of 69 this morning due to old-age complications at his Loan Office Para residence in Jashore. 

Rahman, who also represented Jashore District Football and Hockey team in the 70s, left behind a daughter, a son, wife and a lot of well-wishers to mourn.

"My father had been bedridden for a long time since suffering a brain stroke one year ago. Even though he was doing well a week before, his condition deteriorated recently and he could consume only milk and water in last five days. He finally left us this morning," Tanvir Rahman, son of Lutfor, informed The Daily Star. 

The namaj-e-janaja of the freedom fighter will be held at the Sammiloni High School in State honor and later will be buried at the family graveyard in Talbaria in Jashore.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina last year came forward to help Lutfor financially to have a saving deposit of Tk 30 lakh. 

"He had been associated with Swadhin Bangla Football from the very beginning and also played a few matches in India," said former general secretary of Jashore District Sports Association Shafiquzzaman, who is also a former footballer.

"Lutfor had been a good player in both football and hockey. He represented the Jashore football and hockey team and played football for Wari Club in Dhaka," informed Shafiquzzaman, a former executive member of Bangladesh Football Federation.
