India win Asia Cup
India regained the Asia Cup title after a 2-1 victory over Malaysia in the final at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium today.
The former champions, who had won their second and last title ten years ago, remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and justified their billing as the top-ranked side in Asia with their third Asia Cup title.
This was India’s eighth final in ten editions while Malaysia, coming into the tournament as the second-ranked side, had made it to their maiden final.
Ramandeep Singh and Lalit Upadhyay gave India a 2-0 lead in the first half through field goals before Shahril Saabah pulled on back for Malaysia, but India held on to their lead to clinch their third title.
Meanwhile, Pakistan clinched the third spot after a 6-3 win over South Korea in place-deciding match earlier in the day.
