Jadeja stars in Chennai’s 20-run win over Hyderabad

Ravindra Jadeja turns in a fine all-round show to help Chennai Super Kings to a 20-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their Indian Premier League match at the Dubai International Stadium

Ravindra Jadeja turned in a fine all-round show to help Chennai Super Kings to a 20-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their Indian Premier League match at the Dubai International Stadium yesterday.

Other than Faf du Plessis, who was out for a first-ball duck after skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat, all the Chennai batsmen contributed in their total of 167 for six.

Ambati Rayudu hit 41 off 34 balls and Shane Watson 42 off 38 balls after opener Sam Curran's 21-ball 31.

But when Watson was fourth out with the score on 120 in the 17th over, Jadeja's late salvo made all the difference. The left-handed all-rounder hit three fours and a six in his unbeaten 10-ball 25 as Chennai scored 47 runs off the last 22 balls of their innings.

Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for Hyderabad, taking two wickets for 19 runs from four overs. Khaleel Ahmed and Thangarasu Nataran also picked two apiece, but were much more expensive, conceding 45 and 41 runs respectively from their quotas.

In chase of 168, Hyderabad's Kane Williamson played the best innings of the day -- 57 off 39 balls with seven boundaries -- but got little support from teammates as Hyderabad were kept to 147 for eight.

Jadeja's left-arm spin accounted for the wicket of Hyderabad opener Jonny Bairstow while conceding 21 runs from three overs.

Karn Sharma and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets each for Hyderabad.
