Legal assistance for alleged assault victim
In order to provide legal assistance, two representatives of Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), a legal and human rights organisation, spoke to the alleged sexually assaulted female weightlifter and her relatives at the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital yesterday.
Shilpi Saha, a lawyer of ASK, informed that they have talked to the victim, her uncle, grandmother and doctors and that they would visit the hospital again today to meet the mother of the victim.
“We are trying to boost them mentally since they belong to an under-privileged family. We asked the uncle of the victim whether they want to a remedy after such an incident and he gave his nod. We need to talk to the victim's mother and hope to meet her tomorrow [Wednesday],” Shilpi said, adding that they would continue to communicate with the victim's family.
“Talking to the doctor, we learnt that the state of victim is not stable and she is not in a situation to talk. She has gone through a big trauma and doctors are giving her counselling and medicine regularly,” said the lawyer.
In another move, National Sports Council (NSC) has formed a three-member probe committee headed by director (Administration) Billal Hossain. The committee has been asked to submit its report within 15 days. NSC staff Abdul Malek, who allegedly helped the main accused Shohag Ali, has been served a show-cause notice and has been asked to reply within three days.
