Title contenders Mohammedan kept their winning streak in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League intact with a 5-1 win over Ajax in a Super Five encounter at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium yesterday.

With a twelfth win in as many matches, the Black and Whites have consolidated their spot at the top of the table with 36 points, six ahead of holders Dhaka Mariner Young's Club and Club Cup champions Abahani, who blanked Sonali Bank 4-0 in the day's first match.

However, Mariners have played a match less than Mohammedan and Abahani.

Gurjinder Singh stole the show by scoring in the ninth, 33rd and 43rd minutes to complete a hattrick. Compatriot Arvinder Singh had given them the lead in the sixth minute from a penalty corner after Nasir Hossain had struck. Ajax pulled one back through Lakhwinder Singh.

In the day's first match Abahani, who are lagging behind in the title race following a 1-5 defeat to Mariners, took 19 minutes to break the deadlock as Sohanur Rahman Sabuj put the Sky Blues ahead before doubling the lead five minutes later.

After resumption, Mohammad Mohsin made it 3-0 at the half-hour mark and Malaysian Ahmed Tajuddin wrapped up the victory in the 37th minute.
