Saif appoint Mamic, Mintu

Saif Sporting Club appointed Croatian coach Drago Mamic as the head coach and Julfiker Mahmud Mintu as associate coach for the rest of season, confirmed the club’s managing director Nasiruddin Chowdhury yesterday.

The appointment came three days after the club management terminated contract with Maldivian coach Mohammad Nizam citing his inability to handle the team on and off the field. Saif were eliminated from the quarterfinals of the Federation Cup.

The 65-year-old Croatian coach had earlier worked in Bangladesh with Abahani for two seasons – 2016 and 2017 while Mintu last season worked with Chattogram Abahani.

“Today we appointed Mamic and Mintu because we wanted an experienced coach like Mamic, who worked really well with a depleted Abahani while Mintu is an energetic local coach who knows modern football well,” said Nasiruddin.
