Faf suspended for third Test

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis was on Sunday suspended for one Test because of his team's slow over rate as they beat Pakistan in Cape Town.

Du Plessis and his players were also fined a percentage of their match fees.

Du Plessis had previously been found guilty of what the ICC deemed a "minor over-rate offence" against India at Centurion on January 17 last year and so, the statement said, "this offence constituted his second minor over-rate offence within a 12-month period."          -- Afp

Ribery in hot water after Twitter outburst

Bayern Munich will impose "a heavy fine" on Franck Ribery for his obscenity laced outburst on social media, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said on Sunday.

The French striker put a string of angry posts on Twitter and Instagram on Saturday aimed at those who had criticised him for eating a gold-coated steak.

"I had a long talk with Franck and I let him know that we would impose a heavy fine on him and he accepted it," Salihamidzic told journalists. "He used words that FC Bayern cannot accept and that Franck does not have the right to use, as a role-model." -- Afp

Blackpool fan's bizarre protest

Arsenal's FA Cup tie at Blackpool got off to a bizarre start Saturday when a fan of the home side staged a sit-down 40-minute protest -- on the roof of the Premier League giants' luxury team bus.

The demonstration forced Unai Emery's men to travel to the club's Bloomfield Road ground in another bus.

Fans protested against the club's owners, the Oyston family, outside the stadium ahead of Saturday's high-profile third round clash. The bus protester was eventually talked down before being arrested.         -- Afp
