Wanderers relegated
Dhaka Wanderers Club has been relegated from the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League as they suffered a humiliating 1-13 defeat to Sonali Bank in their last fixture of the tournament at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium yesterday.
This was the tenth straight defeat for the Wanderers who now sit at the bottom of the table with a single point from 11 outings, one point behind 11th placed Azad SC. Interestingly, the only point the Wanderers earned came from a goalless draw with Azad. After that, they failed to secure any more points as they lost all 10 remaining matches, conceding a total of 66 goals while scoring only 10.
Rajib Das, Deen Islam Emon and Prosenjit Roy scored five, four and three goals respectively while Fazle Hossain netted the other to propel Sonali Bank to a fourth-place finish in the first phase with 24 points.
In the day's other match, Wari Club notched their fifth victory by beating Shadharan Bima 4-3 and finished sixth on the 12-team table while Shadharan Bima claimed the eighth position with 10 points.
The first-leg of the league will be concluded today with a high-voltage encounter between holders Dhaka Mariner Young's Club and Abahani at the same venue.
