Jude Bellingham was the first to open the deadlock in the 35th minute, after which Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling found their names on the scoresheet for the 1966 champions, who lead 3-0 at half-time. 

England have been thoroughly dominating in the first half, enjoying a lion's share of possession. Iran, on the other hand, waited till the end of first half to create a shot on goal.   

Earlier in the half, the officials had to allocate 14 minutes of extra time after play was interrupted in the 10th minute when Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand had to be taken off after he collided with his team's defender in the penalty box, and Hossein Hosseini was brought on as a concussion sub.
