Artificial intelligence and improved drugs: Another big step forward
Designing drugs that target proteins requires knowing the three-dimensional (3D) shape of the target protein and creating a drug whose shape binds to that target protein. As of June 2021, research had only determined the shape of one-third of human proteins. Then, in July 2021, two groups used artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the shape of nearly every human protein from nucleic acid sequences.

Pollution responsible for nine million deaths in 2019
The new report updated in The Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health, published in The Lancet Planetary Health, states that although the number of deaths from pollution sources associated with extreme poverty (such as indoor air pollution and water pollution) has decreased, these reductions are offset by increased deaths attributable to industrial pollution (such as ambient air pollution and chemical pollution). Physical activity is associated with lower rates of incident depression
Many studies show a general association between greater physical activity and a lower risk for depression. In this meta-analysis, researchers sought to quantify a dose-response relation by evaluating 15 observational studies (190,000 participants with follow-up ranging from 3 to 25 years) with a wide range of activity level measures that could be harmonised into a single measure of marginal metabolic equivalent task hours per week (mMET-h/wk).
