Biman leasing planes from Egypt: Corruption or loss?

From Egypt, two planes were leased. Buying would be more expensive, thus the two planes were leased. In addition to a colossal loss,  they were not able to generate any profit in five years. But a new aircraft could be purchased with that amount of money.

 Was it merely a financial setback? Or was it a planned deception?
