Except 3, no other party participating in Jan 7 polls could obtain even 1pc votes in 2008, 2018 elections

Recently, the actress made headlines when she bought nomination papers from the ruling Bangladesh Awami League to run for the Chapainawabganj-2 seat, but she was passed over by the party. She then decided to run as an independent candidate for the Rajshahi-1 seat.

It appears that all of the ruling party’s efforts revolve around the next election, not considering longer-term ramifications for itself.

Extremely low number of women candidates is a wake-up call

The election authorities must do more to ensure a conducive environment for the upcoming general election in Bangladesh.
