Abahani completed a three-peat of the Dhaka Premier League with a commanding six-wicket victory over rivals Mohammedan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

Riding on an impressive all-round display from Mosaddek Hossain and a composed unbeaten half-century from Mohammad Mithun, Abahani Limited secured their third successive Dhaka Premier League (DPL) title with a commanding six-wicket win over arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club in their final Super League match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

Mohammedan Sporting Club need a victory over title contenders Abahani Limited in today’s last match of Green Delta Premier Division Hockey League to regain the prestigious title but the league leaders are hesitant to play their last match over the issue of Rasel Mahmud Jimmy’s suspension.

Abahani extended their unbeaten streak to eight matches as they beat archrivals Mohammedan comprehensively by eight wickets at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

Soon after the presentation ceremony was over following the pulsating Federation Cup final in Cumilla yesterday, Mohammedan captain Souleymane Diabate ran up the stairs with two trophies in his hands --one for the top-scorer and another for the player of the tournament -- and a crest for becoming the most valuable player of the final. He walked into the dressing room, where the Mohammedan players were revelling following a pulsating win over arch-rivals Abahani.

Having beaten arch-rivals and defending champions Abahani 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the pulsating Federation Cup final in Cumilla on Tuesday, Mohammedan Sporting Club head coach Alfaz Ahmed praised his charges for putting up their utmost effort to win the first Federation Cup trophy in 14 years.
