As Cyclone Hamoon is heading towards the coastal districts of Bangladesh, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has issued an urgent advisory for farmers, urging them to immediately harvest transplanted Aman paddy once it reaches 80 percent maturity.

Bangladesh is likely to achieve the cultivation target for Aman, the second biggest rice crop, to bag an increased amount of the grain and ensure domestic self-sufficiency amid volatility in the global market, said agricultural officials.

The government is trying to make an all-out effort to ensure a good Aman harvest, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to farmers for irrigation as it looks to ensure food security amid global economic uncertainty.
