Sweden's Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis set a new world record of 6.30 metres as he sensationally defended his world pole vault title in Tokyo on Monday.

The US-born Swede has been in electric form, setting a 13th world record, of 6.29 metres, in Budapest on Tuesday to further seal his claim as one of the best track and field athletes in history.

It was the 25-year-old's third record of 2025 having also cleared 6.27m in Clermont-Ferrand in February.

Duplantis defended his Olympic gold in the Stade de France in some style, improving his own world record to 6.25 metres.

"What can I say? I just broke a world record at the Olympics, biggest possible stage for a pole vaulter," Duplantis said.

Olympic champion Duplantis improved his own record of 6.21m that he set in winning the world title outdoors in Oregon last year.

Armand Duplantis wrapped up the World Athletics Championships in Eugene in stunning fashion on Sunday, setting a new world record in the pole vault as the curtain came down on the 10-day global track and field extravaganza.
