The government yesterday banned all activities of the Awami League and its associated and affiliated organisations, on allegations of killings, genocide, crimes against humanity, and other grave offences during the July uprising.

Abbas made the remarks while addressing a memorial at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka

The CEC made the remarks following a meeting with a delegation from the US-based organisation Carter Center

The interim government is set to bring the curtain down on the Awami League as a functioning political party.
