Bangladesh has started to receive about 750 megawatts of electricity from the Adani power plant in India yesterday, putting to bed the suspense surrounding the start of the cross-border transmission.

The country will come under the 100 per cent electricity coverage within the next three to four years, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid tells the parliament.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urges all to practise austerity in using the electricity as consumers are getting it at a very lower price due to government subsidy in the sector.

The nightmare called load-shedding is back. With a mild heat wave sweeping the country, people, mainly in rural areas, are suffering due to frequent power cuts.

Bangladesh will buy 100 megawatts of electricity from India’s Tripura at Tk 6.44 per kilowatt-hour, officials concerned said.
