Two more development projects to be implemented following a public-private partnership module under Bangladesh-Japan joint initiative have been dropped.

Bangladesh focused on areas of duty-reduction and increasing investment from Japan during recent discussions on the potential signing of an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the two countries, according to an official of the commerce ministry.

Both Bangladesh and Japan have begun negotiating the terms and conditions of a joint feasibility study in order to prepare the ground for signing a free trade agreement by 2025, officials said.  

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has called upon the Japanese government to extend the zero-duty benefit for Bangladesh exports to Japan for at least five more years after the country graduates from the least developed countries (LDC) status.

Japan has signed a grant agreement of $5 million with Bangladesh for promoting quality primary education in the country, the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka said today.

Bangladesh and Japan sign a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on accepting specified skilled workers by Japan from Bangladesh.
