Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader says the government will take harsh steps if health guidelines are not followed and social distancing is not maintained in public transport during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The government extends the ongoing suspension of all public transport till May 30 to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

At least 87 percent buses and minibuses ply the roads in the capital recklessly in violation of traffic rules, creating anarchy in the public transport sector, said a passenger welfare platform citing its survey covering over one thousand vehicles.
