The back-to-back ODI series defeats to West Indies and Afghanistan have come as a big reality check for Bangladesh, who seemed to have lost their way in the 50-over format ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in February-March next year.

If given a choice between playing an ODI at home or away, the Bangladesh cricket team, like most other teams in the world, would almost always prefer playing as the hosts.

There is hardly anyone who can argue with the fact that Bangladesh know what it takes to win a ODI match much better than the other two formats and they proved it again by winning the first match of the three-match ODI series against West Indies in Guyana on Sunday.

Bangladesh suffered humiliating defeats in both the Test and T20I series against the West Indies during their ongoing tour of the Caribbean but they can take plenty of inspiration from their ODI record books when they take on the home side in the first match of the three-match series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana tonight.

Things have not gone Bangladesh’s way so far in the Caribbean. Shakib Al Hasan’s Test side were comprehensively whitewashed in the two-match Test series while T20I skipper Mahmudullah Riyad has come under heavy scrutiny for his style of captaincy after his side ended up losing the three-match series 2-0 with the first T20I getting washed out due to inclement weather.
