Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman yesterday said Bangladesh has earned global recognition for its contributions to peacekeeping and remains firmly committed to upholding international peace through continued participation in UN missions.

The United States has appreciated the "courage and dedication" of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers who promote peace around the world.

United Nations (UN) has posthumously awarded ‘Dag Hammarskjöld Medal’ to 12 Bangladeshi peacekeepers as it observed ‘International Day of the UN Peacekeepers’.

Three Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers were killed in an explosion during a battle with criminals in Mali yesterday, said Inter Services Public Relations.
