We are glad that Nayek Razzak of the BGB has been returned to us by the Myanmar authorities, though it has taken longer than it should have.

It seems that there was lack of coordination between the Myanmar government and its border police, as evident from the two different news items related to the fate of the BGB soldier abducted by the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) more than a week ago, emanating from the Myanmar side.

We are sure the present crisis will be solved in a day or two but what remains to be seen is Myanmar's total commitment to all bilateral and international rules of business when it comes to maintaining peace at the borders and solving other long-standing issues with Bangladesh.

Myanmar Border Guard Police says they can only release abducted Border Guard Bangladesh Nayek Abdur Razzak, if Bangladesh agrees to bring back 550 "rescued Bangladeshi migrants" from Myanmar.

It has been five days since a BGB Nayek was abducted by the Myanmar border forces -- the BGP. He has not been returned till going to press.

BNP terms the abduction of a BGB member by Myanmar border force as “shameful” and demanded the government to issue a strong warning to the neighboring state to stop the recurrence of such incidents.
