Tension is running high as archrivals BNP and Awami League are all set to show their strength within two kilometres of each other in Dhaka today.

Police have asked BNP and Awami League to propose names of two alternative venues each in case law enforcers are unable to give permission to hold their rallies in the capital's Nayapaltan and Baitul Mukarram areas respectively on security grounds

Amid “provocations” by the Awami League and police “obstruction” of BNP activists, it will be challenging to hold a peaceful rally on October 28, said party leaders.

The Awami League is fully prepared to prevent the BNP from resorting to violence centring the October 28 rally, ruling party leaders said.

It is quite perplexing why the government seems set to repeat the measures that led to horrifying consequences between December 7 and 11 in 2022.
