Crowds intensified from 4:30 PM on Friday as booklovers and literature enthusiasts from all across the city gathered to have their first sights of the beloved Boi Mela in its first weekend.

Preexisting publishers are struggling to sustain in the market since the Covid-19 and the recent rise in paper prices. How are smaller and emerging publishers faring? 

Bangladesh needs to formulate a national book policy, as well as a comprehensive bibliography policy, alongside guidelines for the rights of authors and publishers, for contracts, and higher standards for editing and translating. 

In the last two years, Amar Ekushey Boi Mela has been marred by fears, delays, and uncertainties caused by the pandemic. However, Bangla Academy hopes that this year’s book fair will return to its former glory with life getting back on track.

Jilapi Career (Odommo Prokash, 2022), a book written for undergraduate students and young professionals, has been published and released at the Ekushey Boi Mela today.

The Ekushey Boi Mela, which was inaugurated on February 15, witnessed good footfall over the weekend, which led to crowd gatherings near popular pavilions. 

This year, while strolling across the Ekushey Boi Mela, I came across a variety of styles in stall decor.

First, the government authorities are always behind in planning and leave things for the last minute to reach concrete decisions, and often, these decisions don’t take into consideration pragmatic solutions that are sustainable and maintainable in the long term.
