Last week, one of Dhaka’s oldest bookstores announced that they will be closing shop after running for 60 years

Zeenat Book Supply, a New Market staple for book lovers since 1963, will close shop on May 1, 2023. 

This public typewriter experiment was also a personal experience for him as he first fell in love with typewriters when he came across his grandfather’s 1930s Smith Corona. As a struggling writer at that time, this machine was what made writing to him a joyous experience.

“The books launched and discussed at the Dhaka Lit Fest are on their way”, store owner Amina Rahman informed Daily Star Books.

Spectacular is the bookstore in Buenos Aires El Ateneo Grand Splendid; a former opera house built in 1903 and now shelved with books in a massive remodelling exercise.

The new branch is expected to open in mid-January, store owner Amina Rahman told The Daily Star. 

For avid readers, bookshops hold a special place in their lives.

“We tried our best to keep the shop but the tides of change are upon us”, Bookworm announced on their social media today. 

In celebration of Independent Bookshop Day, Bookworm Bangladesh, located on the Old Airport Road, are offering a 25 percent discount on all imported books for customers personally visiting their shop and 20 percent off on online orders. The offer ends on October 9. 

Bookstore Baatighar began its journey in 2005 in an area of around hundred square feet in Cheragi Pahar, Chittagong. Within a very short span of time the store’s friendly atmosphere became popular in the city. From its initial tiny shop of only 100 square feet it has now expanded to a 1600 square feet haven for book-lovers of all ages as well a hub for writers and cultural activists.
