Chanchal Chowdhury made the country proud when he represented Bangladesh in the Kolkata International Film Festival, sharing the stage with superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Shatrugan Sinha. The Daily Star talked to Chanchal over the phone on his achievement.

Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury was seen to be sharing the same stage as the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Mahesh Bhatt, Shatrughan Sinha and Kumar Sanu yesterday at Kolkata International Film Festival. His pictures with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan have created a buzz on the internet. 

After creating waves in the country, “Hawa” is all set to release in Kolkata tomorrow. On the occasion of the release, Chanchal Chowdhury flew to Kolkata today to attend the premiere show. The film director, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, and actress Nazifa Tushi reached Kolkata a few days ago.

As the country eagerly awaits the release of the second part of “Karagar”, where Chanchal Chowdhury continues his stellar run as an actor, more news awaits his fans.

Mamunur Rashid has written many plays for his own drama group, Aranyak Natyadal, throughout his illustrious career. He has also directed several plays for the stage as well. Among them, one of his most successful plays, which he has both written and directed, is “Rarang”.

Once upon a time, Chanchal was a regular performer on the stage for Aranyak Natyadal. During that time, two of the group’s productions, “Rarang” and “Songkranti” garnered a lot of appreciation from the audience. Now, Chanchal is all set to make a comeback to the stage after an extended hiatus. The actor will once again take to the stage to perform the 199th and 200th shows of “Rarang” this month.

The film stars Chanchal Chowdhury as Chan Majhi, Nazifa Tushi as Gulti, and Sariful Razz as Ibrahim or Iba, amongst others. A few days ago, Gulti, a protagonist of the trending movie Hawa, sat amongst the crowd at Chitra Mahal cinema hall in Old Dhaka, to relive the magic of cinema amongst real men.

The movie written and directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon is facing an implausible triumph, one that is only synonymous with blockbuster hits. Fans had gone wild even before the movie was released. They were wearing the Hawa sari, and Hawa T-shirts, carrying the Hawa merchandise and even humming to the famous ‘Shada-Kala’ tune while boarding a rickshaw. It’s as if the film had created a cult following, who were hung up on setting the records straight for once: that Bangladeshi movies could generate a buzz similar to any of their global counterpart.
