Former Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha on Friday issued a statement, raising questions regarding the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) motive behind his sacking from his position.

In his first tenure, Hathurusingha in a way made up for his rigid attitude with bold tactics. But this time, the boldness was missing. The once sharp tactician had turned into a meek coach, trying to do the bare minimum to safeguard his job.

Hathurusingha was suspended due to two factors: misconduct against a player during last year’s ODI World Cup in India and an extended period of leave.

Bangladesh players trained at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown today ahead of their final Group D fixture against Nepal at the same venue on Monday. A win against Nepal will seal qualification to the Super 8s for the Tigers alongside group-leaders South Africa. 

For Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, the lack of runs at the venue meant that both Bangladesh and South Africa have equal chances, going into the game on Monday.

More than a year into his contract, Hathurusingha got to see both sides of the coin. In 2023, Bangladesh whitewashed defending champions England, and Afghanistan won a series against Ireland at home and claimed their maiden T20I win over New Zealand in the BlackCaps’ backyard. But less than a year since enjoying their best ever run in the shortest format, the Tigers spiralled down to their lowest point, displaying a severe lack of continuity.

“In T20 Cricket, yes, batting order will be changing. That's just normal cricket," said the Bangladesh head coach.
