Five lakh doses of China's Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine have been handed over to Bangladesh today.

According to the latest update by Our World In Data, Bangladesh has administered at least 2.08 million doses. As per the number of people who received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, as of February 20, Bangladesh holds 11th position in the global vaccination race -- ahead of Spain, Poland and Canada.

The government is considering keeping on-the-spot registration provision for senior citizens for Covid-19 vaccination, Secretary to the Health Services Division Md Abdul Mannan said today.

Bangladesh's nationwide vaccination programme began on February 7, 2021. The government has created a web portal, Surokkha, for easy registration for both doses of the vaccine.

As confusion continues over the price of Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, the government and the Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd have reiterated that Bangladesh will get the vaccine at the same price India is paying.
