Now that the Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) election is over and everything there was to see and hear has been seen and heard, we need to address the elephant in the room.

Around 52 percent votes were cast in Cumilla City Corporation election, Returning Officer Shahedunnabi Chowdhury said this afternoon.

Cumilla-6 Awami League lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar today said that the letter (asking him to leave the election area) Election Commission gave to him was “out of its jurisdiction”. 

Some voters of ward no. 19 under Cumilla City Corporation alleged that the EVMs used for voting at the polling stations have been displaying only “Boat”, the electoral symbol of Awami League.

There is no scope to express “helplessness” by the Election Commission, but they have an “inherent power” to take action against those who “dishonours” the commission’s directives, said Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan).

For a party so image-conscious and so demanding of "clean image" from its candidates, Awami League surely knows how to make a muck of things and draw unflattering attention.
