From deadly Hurricane Ida in the United States to devastating floods in China and Europe, climate change-fuelled disasters have cost the world tens of billions of dollars in 2021, with both the poor and the rich hit hard, researchers said on Monday.

Around 2,570 houses of Cox’s Bazar were damaged by the storm triggered by cyclone “Yaas” that weakened into a deep depression over India's north Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand area this morning.

Very severe cyclone Yaas today made landfall near Dhamra port in eastern Indian state Odisha's Bhadrak district, the Indian Met Department said.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended operation of all types of vessels on all river routes across the country as a precautionary measure against the severe cyclonic storm "Yaas".

Severe cyclonic storm "Yaas" over northwest bay and adjoining area moved northwestwards further and now lies over the same area.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra were advised to hoist distant warning signal number 2 today, instead of cautionary signal number 1, as the depression over the southeast Bay and adjoining Andaman Sea intensified into cyclonic storm “Yaas”.
