Members of Rapid Action Battalion have arrested one person in connection with the death of two people during the clashes between Dhaka College students and New Market traders.

Heated arguments and brawls between the shopkeepers of New Market area and Dhaka College students are nothing new. Over the years, the city dwellers suffered their share when both the parties locked into running battles and violent clashes -- most of the time over trivial matters.

A case has been filed against two Facebook users under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for allegedly spreading misinformation against Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh regarding the clashes at Dhaka's New Market area on April 18 and 19.

Students of several educational institutions, including Dhaka College, have expressed anger over the role of police in bringing the situation under control following the clash between shop employees and students in New Market area today.

At least six newsmen, including The Daily Star’s photojournalist, were attacked and injured while performing their duties during the clash between shop employees and Dhaka College students in New Market area.
