The Supreme Court has cleared the way for Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) to implement a 25 percent hike inwater price that it fixed earlier.

The High Court has issued injunction till August 10 on Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority's (Wasa) decision of hiking water price by 25 percent from April 1 this year.

The High Court has fixed June 22 for delivering its order on a writ petition filed challenging the decision of Dhaka Wasa to hike the price of water by 25 percent from April 1 this year.

Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority has proposed hiking water prices by 80 percent for residential and commercial uses.

The High Court wants to know expert opinions on two separate test reports on the water supplied by Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa).

The High Court has directed the government to test the Wasa supply water of 34 areas in Buet and Dhaka University laboratories.

The High Court yesterday expressed dissatisfaction at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) for not complying with its order to examine the quality of water supplied by the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) through a committee.
