Dr Kamal Hossain and five other leading jurists of the country say in a statement that the lower courts have been made subordinate to the executive by three “cardinal rules” involving the lower court judges.

Law Minister Anisul Huq says the power of the Supreme Court has not been curtailed rather has been increased following the issuance of the gazette notification determining the disciplines for lower court judges.

Law Minister Anisul Huq says the problem regarding issuance of a gazette notification on the rules determining the discipline of lower court judges has been solved. The gazette notification might be issued by December 3, the date scheduled for next hearing of the Supreme Court on Masdar Hossain case, known as judiciary separation case, he said while talking to The Daily Star after a meeting with the apex court judges.

Expressing unhappiness with the government’s repeated time plea to issue a gazette, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha says that the judiciary has been taken hostage.
