One more day and it's election time for the northern part of the capital city. Residents of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will choose their mayor for the second time in four years since the first mayoral election of a bifurcated Dhaka was held in 2015.

The government declares general holiday in the electoral areas for by-elections to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on February 28.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain says the High Court order staying the Dhaka North City Corporation Polls will not pose any negative impact on the regular activity of DNCC.

BNP executive committee member Tabith Awal has won the party ticket for mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation.

With their main focus on the national election, archrivals Awami League and BNP will use the upcoming city corporation elections to gain ground. Sources in both the parties said they would employ their “full strength” in next month's Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral race to make a good start early in the election year.

The Election Commission plans to hold the Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral by-polls in late February with the two major political parties expected to nominate candidates soon.

The by-polls to the mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will be held in the last week of February next year, Acting Secretary of Election Commission Helaluddin Ahmed says.
