Bangladesh’s declining score in the EIU Democracy Index should provide an opportunity to discuss not only how EIU has rated Bangladesh, but also how others have characterised the country’s state of democracy—or lack thereof.

Bangladesh climbed two places to 73rd in the world democracy index with a score of 5.99, while India were in joint 46th spot with a score of 7.04 and Norway topped the list with a score of 9.81.

Bangladesh has advanced four notches on the latest Democracy Index 2018 of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research and analysis division of The Economist Group.
