Nasrul Hamid, the state minister for power, yesterday asked Independent Power Producers to increase electricity generation by May 1.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (August 14, 2022) said that she is fully aware of public suffering due to the record fuel price hike and load shedding, and completely empathises with them.

The government’s plan for one to two hours of daily power cuts is failing, especially in the north, and the signs are that the electricity crisis may worsen across the country in the coming days.

The government paid Tk 16,785 crore in capacity charges to power plants in the first nine months of the last fiscal year for 22,118MW daily power generation capacity.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said that diesel-run power plants will remain closed from today (July 18, 2022).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the countrymen not to put up special decorative lights on the occasion of social events at community centres, shops, offices and houses in order to save electricity.

Mentioning that electricity from the second unit of Payra, Rampal power plants and 1600MW imported from India will be added to the national grid by this year, Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources, said, "Hopefully, the current situation will not last long."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (July 5, 2022) said that she is considering “area-based load shedding” for a specific period to save fuel used for power generation.
