In 2007, a villager was killed as two groups clashed over the theft of a cow in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet. It took one year to complete the investigation of the murder case. Another seven years was taken to finish the trial. The pursuit of delayed justice resulted in nothing; in the verdict delivered in 2015, no one was punished.

The report in this newspaper yesterday about how the bloggers are losing trust in the law enforcing agencies regarding their capability and indeed willingness to provide them with the minimum of security is very distressing.

Controversial writer Taslima Nasreen, living in exile since 1994, heavily criticises the government and the law enforcement agencies for their failure to catch the bloggers’ murderers.
