The government appointed an administrator to the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), following the resignation of its president amid protests

On April 4, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged the government to pay attention to ensuring reasonable protection from customs tariffs for the sake of employment and promoting domestic industries, services and small and medium enterprises.

The apex trade body said at present, 2 percent tax at source is applicable on the supply of items such as rice, wheat, potato, onion, garlic, chickpeas, lentils, turmeric, pepper, maize, flour, flour, salt, edible oil, sugar, and all kinds of fruits among other items.

The reserves stood at $19.45 billion on March 27 whereas it was more than $41 billion two years ago.
