On the eve of the national election, Shamsad Mortuza explores animal imagery as the myth of union and harmony across cultures.

Before The Brothers Grimm published their version of the story, titled Sneewittchen, the original Italian folktale was about a mother’s envy and jealousy towards her own daughter.

The verses remind us that a withering, war-torn Earth can still birth new life and hopes of freedom.

The scenography for the project was made by Paris-based multinational architecture, art, and design group Golem. It has been created with the support of Harper Collins India. The installation invites visitors to enter a forest of enormous pages where scenes from the book stand as tall as trees.

Here, Rapunzel, Hercules, Bon Bibi, and King Solomon might be having a gala time over tea, or fighting their own battles.

Going live from May 15 is The Myth Bridge, a live-action simulation game that “[brings] to life” and connects nine women characters from Bengali and German folklore. 

When the two worlds meet, great things are created.

For nine generations the Acharya family has depicted rural Bengal in their scroll paintings in a dream-like setting, where life was simpler but in no way easy.
