While most listed companies struggled to raise profits in the first half of 2022-23 owing to higher petroleum prices, listed state-run oil companies in Bangladesh saw a staggering double-digit growth in earnings.

After the latest fuel price hike, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation will make a profit of Tk 205 crore per month, provided that the dollar price continues at the rate of July.

Observing that transport fares have been adjusted in the context of fuel price hike but some transports are realising extra fares from passengers, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today (August 9, 2022) said those who are trying to realise additional fares are under watch.

The increase in gas tariff in June and the fuel price hike on Saturday will have an immediate negative impact on transportation, essential commodities and electricity, said the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) yesterday.

Finance Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal has said that consumers will be benefitted if the prices of fuel drop in the international market.

The authorities have increased bus fare up to 22 percent.
