Though the electricity demand has dropped with the onset of monsoon, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) is struggling to supply adequate power due to a shortage of gas and other fuel supply and maintenance works.

The import demand for fuel remains high as ever despite the government initiatives to reduce consumption, raising questions about the logic behind the strict measures that only fuelled inflation.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid has called upon the public to not pay heed to any rumours regarding shortage in fuel stock in the country.
