State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossen today said the government will change the strange names assigned to some government primary schools within the next six months. Names of many schools in Bangladesh are "bizarre and have negative meanings", the state minister said.

The government officials, who are posted in islands, shoals, and haors in 16 upazilas, will receive a monthly allowance, according to a gazette notification.

The Supreme Court yesterday gave the government one more week for issuing a gazette notification on the discipline and code of conduct for the lower court judges.
