The man has dedicated his life to a form of animation that values patience over production speed, detail over efficiency, and emotion over mere aesthetics. Back in 2016, he made a public statement regarding AI-generated art, where he called it an “insult to life itself”. In recent days, the internet has been swept by a wave of Studio Ghibli-inspired images, generated using OpenAI’s latest native image tool. From fan-made portraits to reimagined film scenes, the AI trend is gaining momentum. However, a resurfaced clip of co-founder Hayao Miyazaki has reignited debate, as he criticises this kind of work, describing it as an “insult to life itself.”

Recently, in recognition of his contributions to the arts, Miyazaki was announced as this year’s winner of the Ramon Magsaysay Award, popularly known as Asia’s Nobel Prize.

The only information released was a poster drawn by Miyazaki - and even that was only sent to a limited number of cinemas.

Good news for Studio Ghibli fans, Hayao Miyazaki's final "How Do You Live?" will be released in Japanese theaters this summer. However, the makers have used a unique strategy, they are not going to release its trailers or new photos until the film is released.
