The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has included the Rohingya issue as the top "emergency item" as proposed by Bangladesh while its 137th assembly is underway in Russia's St. Petersburg, officials say.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union has made a clarion call to parliaments across the globe to take measures to protect the political system from influence of money and organised lobbies.

Parliamentarians across the world believe that democratic practices can ensure development and social justice.

Some 700 parliamentarians from around the globe are flying into Dhaka to participate in the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting and that would mean a lot of carbon footprint. But organisers have vowed to make annual assembly a carbon neutral one.

Bangladesh will host the 136th Assembly of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) on March 2017 said an IPU press release today.
