According to Food Security Statistics 2023 from BBS, about 22 percent of Bangladeshi households face moderate to severe food insecurity, with one percent severely deprived.

The agriculture ministry is planning to take up a Tk 7,214 crore project to promote crop diversification and ensure food safety, aiming to gradually reduce the country’s dependency on imports. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina says enhanced investment in rural economy under a global partnership is a key factor to fight poverty as she presents her key-note address at the council meeting of IFAD, the UN's specialized agency on agriculture.
