Internet speed in the country might improve tonight, according to the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB).

Bangladesh has dropped six places in its global ranking for mobile internet speed performance, as reported by Ookla's Speedtest Global Index for March, which gathers data from monthly tests conducted by users worldwide. Despite individual improvements by operators, the country now sits at the 112th position out of 148 countries, falling from its previous position at 106th in the February report.

A study by Ookla's Speedtest Global Index has positioned Apple's iPhone as the leading device for internet browsing speeds in Bangladesh for Q3 2023. The report, which analyses global internet speed data, indicates a clear edge for Apple devices in the country. The iPhone 14 Pro Max emerges as the top performer, registering a striking median download speed of 45.93 Mbps. This is closely trailed by the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 12 5G models, which show median download speeds of 44.71 Mbps and 43.84 Mbps, respectively.

Bangladesh currently ranks 111th among 142 countries in mobile internet speed, according to the latest findings by the US-based organisation Ookla. The data, part of Ookla's Speedtest Global Index, reveals Bangladesh's current download and upload speeds for mobile internet and positions the country in the global landscape.

Bangladeshis are overpaying for the internet they are getting, and only 24% of the world is overpaying more than Bangladesh. 

Bangladesh lags far behind a number of countries in terms of average internet speed for both mobile and broadband connections, something for which the stakeholders blame each other.

If you are not getting the promised internet speed and quality service from your local internet provider then you can file a complaint with Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

South Korea has the world's fastest average internet connection speed at 29.0 Mbps. Interestingly the USA which invented internet didn't make the top 10 ranking.
