As the year comes to a close, several films are set for theatrical release, with “Nakshikanthar Zamin” (“A Tale of Two Sisters”), directed by Akram Khan, scheduled to premiere on December 27.  

The Suman Mukhopadhyay directorial film “Putulnacher Itikatha” also known as “The Puppet’s Tale” is set to compete at the Big Screen Compilation line-up at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). 

Bangladesh emerged as a sovereign state on December 16, 1971, following a nine-month-long Liberation War. This year, the nation celebrates Victory Day with renewed fervour, especially after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s regime on August 5, 2024.  

The film won an award at the Bengaluru International Film Festival, and was also nominated for the ICFT–UNESCO Gandhi Medal at India’s 53rd International Film Festival. "The recognition ‘Nakshikanthar Zamin’ has received abroad is a significant achievement for this film,” remarks Jaya.

This year, she will return to the 55th edition of IFFI with the film “Bhootpori”, which has been selected to be screened in the Feature Film segment within the Indian Panorama section of the festival.

Director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, known for his success with “Hawa,” is now preparing for his next project titled “Roid,” featuring Nazifa Tushi and Mostafizur Noor Imran in lead roles.

The film “Devi” (2018) is an adaptation of a novel by celebrated author Humayun Ahmed. Helmed by director Anam Biswas, the movie featured Jaya Ahsan in a central role, while Chanchal Chowdhury portrays the character of Misir Ali. Additionally, the film showcased a noteworthy performance from television actress Sabnam Faria, who took on a key role in the film.

Nearly everyone has voiced their opinions in this climate of division, symbolised by red and black. Yet, one prominent figure, acclaimed Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan, remained notably silent.

The actress further added that she would be happier if the Bangladeshi audience could watch “Dear Maa”. “Whenever my film releases in Kolkata, I always feel if Bangladeshi audience could enjoy this film too, I hope we will be able to make it possible in near future,” concluded the actress.
