The felling of century-old Jessore-Benapole highway trees has been halted for six months in the purview of protests against the government’s solution to widen the road. A rule has been issued to explain why the decision should not be declared illegal.

Twenty-six green organisations yesterday demanded the government cancel its decision to fell century-old trees on Jessore-Benapole road considering ecological balance of the area and historic values of the trees.
