Members of the Bangladesh army and police in Bandarban have detained 53 KNF members in two separate operations

Four more people, including a woman, were arrested yesterday in connection with the robberies at Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank of Bandarban's Thanchi upazila

It was around 12:30pm. Bandarban’s Thanchi Bazar was abuzz with people as it was the weekly haat yesterday.

Armed robbers entered the premises of branches of Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank in Bandarban’s Thanchi upazila today and looted more than Tk 20 lakh around noon today, less than 16 hours after another bank robbery in the district’s Ruma upazila. 

Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) has been incurring losses for at least 30 years due mainly to structural weaknesses as the state-run lender has to lend at lower interest rates, pay more for deposits and is sitting on higher non-performing loans.
