An attacking brand of cricket has been the name of the game in the ongoing ICC World Cup. India, with the aggressive batting-approach have led the way so far but for Bangladesh, however, the scenario is quite the opposite.

Bangladesh got off to a brilliant start today.

After a disappointing loss on his birthday, Bangladesh opener Liton Das on Saturday failed to keep his on-field rut hidden as it spilt over off-field on keen media personnel present at the Conrad Hotel during the team's day off.

“Why are the media here? Why are they taking my photo?” Bangladesh opener Liton Das vented to the security staff of the Conrad Hotel in Pune on Sunday.

Despite having cruised to a six-wicket victory against Afghanistan in their World Cup opener, Bangladesh will have their work cut out against a somewhat wounded England in Dharamshala today.

Over the course of the last 12 months, the highest stand by a Bangladesh opening pair had been 102 that Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal had notched. Without Tamim in the World Cup squad, and amidst the ongoing form concerns of openers ahead of the World Cup, youngster Tanzid Hasan and the formidable Liton finally found the runs they needed under their belt ahead of a huge tournament during the first warm-up fixture against Sri Lanka in Guwahati yesterday.

Captain Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal has asked for rest in the third and final ODI against New Zealand, confirmed selector Habibul Bashar on Sunday.

With the World Cup just around the corner, the three-match ODI series against New Zealand was expected to be an ideal platform for the vulnerable Bangladesh top-order to reassess its focus and gain confidence.

Ahead of the World Cup, Liton’s dip in form has been in focus with ODI results not quite going Tigers’ way.

With rain denying Bangladeshi cricketers from practising ahead of the first of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, stand-in skipper Liton Das informed that they might need to play mind games in order to get success against the Kiwis.

Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Liton Das said he would like the experienced duo of Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad to play freely and enjoy their game during the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting in Mirpur tomorrow. 

Bangladesh batter Liton Das had another disappointing outing as he departed for a 24-ball 15 in the 19th over leaving the Tigers reeling at four down for 84 against Sri Lanka in their Asia Cup Super Four contest in Colombo on Saturday. 

"The Asia Cup squad has a few injury concerns and the team management felt the need for an additional player going into the Super Four," chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said.

Bangladesh opener and ODI vice-captain Liton Das departed for Pakistan yesterday but it remains unclear whether Liton would be part of the playing eleven against Pakistan in Lahore on Wednesday in the first Super Four game of the ongoing Asia Cup.

“First of all, I am not aware that Liton is going to Pakistan today. I did not hear it. I just inquired about his update today. If he goes to Pakistan, then I was supposed to know it,” Papon told reporters today.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) might send Liton Das to the Asia Cup if any replacement is needed in the squad.

A big call was made yesterday when Anamul Haque Bijoy was included in Bangladesh's Asia Cup squad as a replacement for Liton Das, who was suffering from a fever that saw him miss the Sri Lanka-bound flight on August 27 with the rest of the Tigers' contingent.

Bangladesh opener Liton Das has been ruled out of the Asia Cup and Anamul Haque Bijoy will be replacing him in the Tigers' squad for the tournament.

Newly appointed skipper Shakib Al Hasan hurried to the official photoshoot for the Asia Cup in Kandy, Sri Lanka, yesterday, arriving at the event after the other team members.

Young pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib boarded the flight for Colombo on 1 pm today to join the Bangladesh team for the Asia Cup campaign.
